History

The 1st PAAMES meeting and the 4th New S-Tech Conference were held in Shanghai International Convention Centre in Shanghai, China from October 26 to 29, 2004. 4 keynote speeches were presented by the Chinese and overseas distinguished guests in the keynote session followed by the 1st PAAMES Forum. Over 200 domestic and international scholars, experts and professions in maritime engineering industry participated in the 1st PAAMES Forum and the 4th New S-Tech Conference. The papers presented in the 4th New S-Tech Conference totaled 72, of which 25 from China, 18 from Korea, 13 from Japan, 8 from Hong Kong, 4 from UK, 3 from Iran and 1 from Poland. Prof. Zhang Shengkun served as the Chair of the Local Organizing Committee. The International Standing Committee (ISC) of the 1st PAAMES decided to change the name of the New S-Tech Conference into Advanced Maritime Engineering Conference (AMEC) in order to widen the scope and to strengthen the link with PAAMES.

The 2nd PAAMES meeting and AMEC 2006 were held at CNU International Center of Cheju University in Jeju Island, Korea, during October 15-18, 2006. 15 member societies in the Pan Asian region joined the conference. More than 220 participants registered and 92 papers were presented in 24 technical sessions. The papers included 36 from Korea, 26 from China, and 25 from China. In the 2nd PAMMES/AMEC, Korean shipbuilding companies contributed significantly to the success of the conference. Prof. H.S. Choi served as the Chair of the Local Organization Committee.

The 3rd PAAMES meeting and AMEC2008 were held during October 20-22, 2008, in Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Japan hosted by JASNAOE in cooperation with JIME and JIN. The participating societies amount to 16 and the number of participants was 191 in total mostly from Asian countries. 4 distinguished guests gave keynote speeches under the themes of the 3rd PAAMES of "Harmonization of maritime engineering industry and related infrastructures, such as education and R&D, in Pan Asian region" and "Cooperation among PAAMES member societies". 122 papers from the 14 fields of maritime engineering were presented at AMEC2008. 4 papers, 2 from Japan, 1 from Korea and 1 from Taiwan, were selected from the presented papers for Best Paper Awards in AMEC 2008. Prof. S. Naito served as the Chair of the Local Organization Committee.

The 4th PAAMES meeting and AMEC2010 were held in National University of Singapore, Singapore in December 2010.

The 5th PAAMES meeting and AMEC2012 were held in the Evergreen International Convention Center, Taipei, Taiwan during 10-12 December, 2012. 5 distinguished guests gave keynote speeches under the themes of the 5th PAAMES of "Green Maritime Engineering Innovations". 92 papers from the 9 fields of maritime engineering were presented at the AMEC2012. 4 papers, 1 from China, 1 from Japan, 1 from Korea and 1 from Taiwan, were selected from the presented papers for the Best Paper Awards in AMEC2012. Prof. J.F. Tsai served as the Chair of the Local Organization Committee.

The 6th PAAMES meeting and AMEC2014 were held in Zhejiang Hotel, Hangzhou, China from October 28-30, 2014. All the 17 PAAMES member societies participated in the International Standing Committee (ISC) meeting. In the 6th PAAMES Forum 6 distinguished guests made the keynote speeches under the theme of "Development of Pan Asian Maritime Industry--Cooperation, Progress and Innovation". Around 170 participants from 9 countries and regions attended AMEC2014 where 79 papers covering wide topics of maritime engineering were presented. These papers included 41 from China, 19 from Korea, 8 from Japan, 4 from Taiwan, 3 from Singapore, 2 from Hong Kong, 1 from Australlia and 1 from Indonesia. 4 papers from China, Korea, Japan and Taiwan were selected from the presented papers for Best Paper Awards in AMEC2014. Prof. Zhang Shengkun served as the Chair of the Local Organizing Committee.
